Getting from SDQ to Santo Domingo

SDQ is not Punta Cana. There are no resort shuttles, no resort desks, no tourist corridor. Most people arriving here are visiting family, staying in Santo Domingo, heading to Boca Chica, traveling for business, or staying in an Airbnb.

Here are the transportation options that people actually use.

01

Uber

Uber works at SDQ, but the pickup area can shift depending on airport staff and taxi pressure — so read this before you open the app.

Once you have signal, set your pickup to “SDQ Arrivals.” Your driver may message you with a specific spot, and sometimes they’ll ask you to walk a little away from the main taxi zone. That’s normal. It’s not unsafe — it’s just how the airport flow works.

Santo Domingo $12–$25  ·  Boca Chica $8–$12

02

Official Airport Taxis

Taxis are right outside the exit doors — easiest option if you don’t want to deal with an app. The tradeoff is cost. They run higher than Uber, and drivers may try to negotiate the price up before you get in. If you want zero hassle, this is still the simplest choice.

Santo Domingo $30–$40  ·  Boca Chica $20–$25

03

Private Driver

If you want someone waiting with your name on a sign, this is the option. It makes the most sense for families, late-night arrivals, people carrying a lot of luggage, or anyone who just wants to walk out and not think about it.

You can book through Viator, GetYourGuide, or a local company. Airbnb hosts often have a driver they trust and are happy to share the contact.

Typical cost: $35–$50 depending on destination

04

Family Pickup

This is the most common SDQ experience. If someone is picking you up, tell them to wait in the pickup lane and expect some traffic and circling — security moves cars along consistently. If you’re traveling with kids, this is usually the easiest option once you’re all together.

05

What Not to Do

Don’t accept rides from anyone who approaches you. Don’t follow someone who says “I have a taxi.” Don’t let anyone grab your bags unless you’re prepared to tip. If you’re negotiating a taxi price, do it within the official area — not outside it.
06

Travel Times

  • SDQ → Santo Domingo: 35–60 minutes
  • SDQ → Boca Chica: 12–18 minutes
  • SDQ → Juan Dolio: 35–45 minutes

Traffic varies significantly depending on time of day.
